ETFO Durham Teachers’ Local is the democratically elected representative body of the 3300 public elementary teachers in the Durham District School Board. We are supported by 5 released teachers, a core executive, 2 Administrative staff, many committees, and a network of 130+ school stewards.
Along with the ETFO Provincial Executive, we bargain collectively for the best working conditions for our members. We advocate for and provide advice, workshops, resources, socials, and more to our membership.
We are affiliated to Provincial ETFO and 83,000 elementary teachers across Ontario.
As part of the Durham Regional Labour Council, we share resources and advocate for all workers.
Durham ETFO is active in the region, donating time and resources to food banks, shelters, community groups and disaster relief.
History
The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario was created on July 1, 1998 by the amalgamation of two predecessor organizations:
the Federation of Women Teachers' Associations of Ontario (FWTAO), and
the Ontario Public School Teachers' Federation (OPSTF).
